Poland will apply for €8 billion from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), a digitization program financed by the European Union. Deputy Infrastructure and Development Minister Zbigniew Klepacki said that five railway infrastructure projects have been prepared.
The goal is to modernize about 90 percent of the passenger and cargo railway network by 2023, Klepacki said. The ministry wants to reduce the time necessary to get from one voivodship capital to another to no more than one hour and 50 minutes.
Several days ago railway infrastructure operator PKP PLK said that it will invest over PLN 7 billion into modernization in 2014. The company also declared it was ready to apply for CEF funding.
