Poland’s gross domestic product grew by 2.7 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2013, according to a flash estimate published by statistics office GUS on Friday.

Seasonally adjusted GDP grew by 2.2 percent y/y and by 0.5 percent compared with the previous quarter, GUS also said.

Economists surveyed by the Polish Press Agency had expected the year-on-year Q4 GDP growth figure to be 2.9 percent.

“It can be said that the data is optimistic. We can see that each quarter is better than the previous one,” GUS president Janusz Witkowski said at a press conference. He stressed that domestic demand has a growing impact on growth, adding to the influence of net exports.

GUS is scheduled to publish a final estimate of Q4 GDP growth on February 28.
