On February 15, construction has launched on the expansion of the PGE powerplant in Opole. “It's the biggest industrial investment in Poland since 1989,” said Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the launch event.

The current facility will be expanded by two brand new coal-fueled power units with 900 MWh capacity each. The whole investment is worth PLN 11.6 billion.

Companies involved in the project include Mostostal Warszawa, Polimex and Alstom. The first unit should be operational in the Q3 20018, while the second one should come online by the Q1 2019.
