Major Polish brewery firm Grupa Żywiec saw its sales revenue slightly decline to PLN 3.50 billion in 2013 from PLN 3.56 billion in 2012, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. Consolidated net profit came in at PLN 271 million compared to PLN 310 million a year earlier.
The company sold 11 million hectoliters of beer last year, while in 2012 the volume was 11.6 million hectoliters.
The decline in sales was caused by an unstable macroeconomic situation, growing costs and unfavorable weather in the first half of the year, Grupa Żywiec said. Consumers were more inclined to buy cheaper beers and the discount store sales channel gained importance.
