PIR may invest into shale gas - minister

State-owned investment vehicle Polskie Inwestycje Rozwojowe (PIR) could get involved in shale gas exploration activities, Environment Minister Maciej Grabowski said last week.

“I do not rule out investments from PIR in the case of good gas extraction projects,” Grabowski said. “I suppose it will be eager to join such projects.”

In the minister’s opinion, PIR could thus partly take the position of the earlier planned National Energy Resources Operator (NOKE), which was supposed to be part of all extraction consortia. The government announced earlier last week that it has scrapped plans to create NOKE.

PIR is one of two operators, alongside Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, of Poland's official investment program, Inwestycje Polskie.
