Polish ski jumper Kamil Stoch won the gold medal in the Normal Hill ski jumping event on Sunday.
Stoch beat Slovenian Peter Prevc and Norwegian Anders Bardal, who took silver and bronze respectively. Another ski jumper – Maciej Kot – came seventh.
This was Stoch’s first event at Sochi, as he will also compete in the Large Hill (on Sunday, 15) and Team events (on Monday, 17).
Other Poles who competed in Sochi during the weekend didn’t win any medals, although some of them came close, finishing in the top ten.
Justyna Kowalczyk came sixth in the ladies Skiathlon, a cross country event. She is competing with a broken foot, although she has informed that she will continue her Olympic campaign.
Meanwhile, Weronika Nowakowska-Ziemniak was seventh in the biathlon Women’s Sprint, and speed skier Katarzyna Bachleda-Curuļ initially finished seventh in the 3,000 meters Ladies race, but was eventually disqualified for crossing the track line.
