Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman assured her Polish counterparts that the Polish part of the missile defense system will be carried out as planned. Concerns were raised after the US announced last week that it has canceled the final phase of the program. Ms Sherman said that Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs was notified about the change before it was publicly announced.

The plan to build an American base in Redzikowo remains, but new intercepting missiles will be installed on US soil exclusively, not in Poland as it was previously planned.

The US official visited Warsaw to take part in the Polish-US Strategic Dialogue for Democracy. Apart from defense issues, energy policy and shale gas extraction prospects were also discussed.
