Finnish energy group Fortum will not go forward with its Zabrze cogeneration plant project until Poland decides on its new renewable energy law, Kalle-Erkki Penttila, investment director at Fortum, told WNP.pl.
The final decision depends on the regulations, the situation on the heat market and on biomass prices, Mr Penttila said. The longer it takes to prepare the new law, the more complicated the situation gets, he explained. It is uncertain how much longer Fortum can wait with it, he added.
“We have various preliminary offers and some of the permits, but if the adoption of the new law takes too long, these offers and permits may become outdated,” said Mr Penttila and added that in such a situation, the company would be forced to revise its decision to go forward with the project.
In January, the Finnish group announced it suspended its Wrocław and Zabrze projects in Poland due to uncertainty over the renewable energy law. The estimated total investment value is zł.2.5 billion.
