Unemployment to fall to 13% in summer?
The Labor Ministry expects a decline in the number of jobless
| Over two million Poles don't have a job SHUTTERSTOCK |
Poland's unemployment rate may fall to 13 percent in the summer, Deputy Labor Minister Jacek Mêcina told radio station TOK FM. He said that this could happen if economic conditions continue to improve and the ministry's intervention on the labor market brings results.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Policy estimates that the registered unemployment rate was 14.4 percent in February (compared to 14.6 in January). Mr Mêcina said that this signals that the situation may be getting better and the ministry will keep observing the labor market and it will give end-year forecasts in the second half of the year.
Mr Mêcina added that the most uncertain times were in Q3 and Q4 of last year, when many group layoffs were announced.
