The conflict between Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Justice Minister Jarosław Gowin has been resolved, the prime minister said at a press conference on Monday. Mr Tusk also announced that Mr Gowin would keep his post in the government. The decision came after the politicians met twice during the day.
Commenting on the situation that had led to the conflict – specifically that Mr Gowin had publicly opposed a Civic Platform draft law on civil unions, contending that it was unconstitutional – the prime minister said that he thought the issue could be resolved in a way that is in accordance with the constitution. He added that he had asked the speakers of both houses of parliament to supervise work on draft civil union law to make sure that it is constitutional.
The media had been speculating about the fate of Mr Gowin since Thursday's meeting of the executive committee of the Civic Platform, the party to which both politicians belong. Government spokesman Paweł Graś wrote on his Twitter account that the PM would “make a decision regarding the presence of minister Gowin in the government on Monday.”
