| Jarosław Gowin, the presumed leader of the conservative faction in Civic Platform Justice Ministry |
Polish media is speculating about the fate of Justice Minister Jarosław Gowin, a member of the conservative faction of the senior coalition partner Civic Platform. The party's executive national committee met on Thursday to discuss ongoing issues and future party elections.
Earlier that day, media reported that Prime Minister Donald Tusk met Mr Gowin the previous evening and told him he should resign or he would be dismissed from his position. Government spokesman Paweł Graś heated up speculation when the committee sitting was already in progress. On his Twitter account he wrote that the PM would “make a decision regarding the presence of minister Gowin in the government on Monday.”
The dispute between Mr Gowin and the prime minister has been intense since the justice minister publicly opposed a Civic Platform draft law on civil unions, arguing that it was unconstitutional despite the fact that Mr Tusk supported it.
