Major Polish utilities PGE and Energa confirmed earlier reports of a deal with Spanish Iberdrola. The companies have agreed to take over 75 percent of Iberdrola Renewables Polska, the company's Polish wind energy unit, for some zł.840 million. The Polish firms also intend to acquire the remaining 25 percent from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which would put the total deal value at zł.1.1 billion.
PGE will acquire three operating wind farms with a total capacity of 70.5 MW and a number of wind farm projects with a planned capacity of 36 MW. Energa, though its subsidiary Energa Hydro, will buy wind farms with a capacity of 114 MW and wind farm projects with a planned capacity of 1,146 MW.
This is the second large wind farm purchase by the two state-owned utilities this year. Earlier in February, PGE and Energa announced the takeover of the Polish wind farm business of Denmark's DONG Energy for an approximate zł.1 billion.
