The Cascada ˆ the General Motors Company

German car maker Opel will begin production of the Cascada, a new four-seat convertible in its plant in Gliwice on February 28. The first cars will be sold in April.

Opel, a subsidiary of General Motors, plans to produce some 10,000 cars per year, though the number may be smaller this year since production will just be getting started at the end of February.

Przemysław Byszewski, PR director of General Motors Poland, emphasized that the annual output would depend on how the new model is received in the target markets including Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.

Opel expanded the Gliwice plant in order to accommodate the new production at a cost of €60 million. However, the company does not plan to hire more employees.

The plant has a capacity of 207,000 cars per year. In 2012 it produced four different Opel Astra models
