Leszek Miller, leader of opposition party Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), said that he has invited former president Aleksander Kwaśniewski, once a member of SLD himself, to join his party in the 2014 elections to the European Parliament.
Mr Miller, a former prime minister, said all politicians who had ever been SLD members were invited to join his party in the elections as long as they pledge to join the leftist faction in the European Parliament, once elected.
Earlier on Thursday, Janusz Palikot, leader of the liberal Palikot's Movement, told Polish Radio that he would talk to Mr Kwaśniewski with a proposal to join forces and run for the EU Parliament as a center-left movement.
Mr Miller, however, added that his invitation didn't extended to those who “disrespect the rules of conduct in parliament and don't share the social values common for left-wing parties.” The former prime minister admitted he was referring to Palikot's Movement.
