Seven Polish state universities were included in the top 500 of this year's Webometrics ranking compiled by the Spanish National Research Council. Including those seven, there are 20 Polish schools total in the top 1,000. Just two years ago, there were only two Polish schools among the top 500.
The highest position is held by the University of Warsaw, ranked 234th. Compared to last year, the university's ranking rose by 113 places. Other Polish schools on the list are: Jagiellonian University (311), Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (393), Wroc³aw University of Technology (412), University of Wroc³aw (431), Warsaw University of Technology (435) and AGH University of Science and Technology (448).
The top position on the list is held by Harvard University, while Cambridge is the best European university. The Webometrics ranking focuses on open access initiatives and promoting global access to academic knowledge.
