KGHM signs contract with Chilean firm
Poland's largest metal mining group, KGHM Polska Mied¼, signed a cooperation agreement with Chilean firm EcoMetales, a subsidiary of mining group Codelco. The companies will work together on research projects aimed at converting arsenic into non-polluting compounds and on increasing the effectiveness of copper and silver mining. KGHM owns the Franke mine and the Sierra Gorda quarry in Chile.
“We plan on cooperating in the intelligent mine project, which would allow us to excavate minerals from huge depths with use of mechanical devices,” said KGHM CEO Herbert Wirth.
