International networks such as Accor (which owns the Polish Orbis), Best Western and Louvre Hotels Group, continue to develop in Poland. According to sector web portal e-hotelarstwo.com, they all grew in 2012, with the leader, Accor, adding six hotels with a total of 775 rooms to its Polish network.
At the same time, hotel networks owned by Polish companies mostly refurbished and expanded existing hotels. Hotele DeSilva was the only Polish network to acquire new hotels in 2012 – two buildings with a total of 124 rooms.
Poland still has potential for growth in this sector, as only 13 percent of its hotels are now part of chains, compared to about 30 percent in EU countries and 70 percent in the US, Janusz Mitulski from the Polish Hotel Chamber said. Also for every 10,000 people there's are only 50 rooms available, which is one of the lowest numbers in the EU.
