Law and Justice (PiS) party leader Jarosław Kaczyński has called for the immediate dismissal of the government following an erroneous report in Rzeczpospolita that Polish experts had found traces of explosives on the wreckage of the presidential plane that crashed in Smolensk, Russia, in April 2010.
In response, Prime Minister Donald Tusk commented that it is challenging to live in a country with persons such as Mr Kaczyński.
After writing Tuesday that Polish experts had found traces of explosives, Rzeczpospolita now reports that it will take about six months for it to be determined whether there were in fact traces of explosives in the wreckage.
The crash took the lives of Polish President Lech Kaczyński (the twin brother of Jarosław) and 95 others.
Rzeczpospolita originally wrote that Polish investigators had found traces of TNT and nitroglycerine in the wreckage.
Colonel Ireneusz Szeląg, head of the Prosecutor’s Office, denied the report in Rzeczpospolita, saying that no traces of TNT or any other explosive material had been found.
The District Military Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw announced that while measuring devices did detect the presence of high-energy material, further tests need to be made to determine the exact nature of the material.
Mr Szeląg stated that tests to determine the exact nature of the material may take six months.
