Mobile operators Orange and T-Mobile are in a race to become the first to offer mobile payment services in Poland based on NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, Parkiet reported. The first one to offer a suitable set of solutions will get the most partner-banks, and consequently the most customers.
Later on Monday, Orange will present its approach to implementing NFC payments technology in the Polish market.
Telefonia Cyfrowa (T-Mobile) meanwhile is due to unveil its plans on Thursday.
Orange's Monday press conference will be held in cooperation with MasterCard and mBank.
Some seven million Poles currently own a smartphone, but only several tens of thousands of these devices support proximity payments. Analysts estimate that this market segment will soon increase very rapidly.
