Poland’s top tennis star, Agnieszka Radwańska, has maintained her grip on a top-three spot in the WTA rankings despite losing the final of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

The 23-year-old Kraków native lost 6-0, 1-6, 6-3 to Russia’s Nadia Petrova, as she failed to retain the title she captured last year.

Ms Radwańska currently has 8,015 points in the race for the number-one spot, behind Russia’s Maria Sharapova in second (8,435) and Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka in first (10,095).

Ms Radwańska’s younger sister Urszula moved up four places to 32nd – a career high in the WTA rankings – after she reached the third round of the Tokyo event.
