Denmark's Dong Energy and Spanish utility Iberdrola are preparing to exit Poland, reports The Financial Times, citing people familiar with the matter.

Both firms have invested in Poland's wind farm market but have decided to pull out in response to the country’s new renewable energy sector regulations which are to be introduced soon.

The new regulations have come under criticism from the wind industry because they favor offshore wind farms as apposed to those on land.

Dong has three wind farms with 111.5 megawatts of installed capability, which account for about 7 percent of Poland's wind-generating capacity. Iberdrola currently has 185 megawatts of windmills on Polish land.

Neither firm has commented on the potential pullouts.
