According to Polish Treasury Minister Mikołaj Budzanowski, a settlement in the arbitration between Polish state-owned gas firm PGNiG and Gazprom regarding price cuts on natural gas imported from Russia should not be expected before the end of the first quarter of 2013, Parkiet reported.

Mr Budzanowski reiterated that current purchase prices for the resource are definitely too high and that Poland should not put up with them.

However, Alexey Miller, head of Gazprom, recently stated that companies in Europe seeking price cuts for gas from the Russian group should no longer bother appealing over that matter.

The statement was in reference to the latest decree announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin, which obligates any strategic Russian company (including Gazprom) to consult any changes, including those related to prices, with the government.

According to the Kommersant daily, PGNiG is among the companies mentioned by Mr Miller.
