Poles are less positive than a year earlier about offering financial support to other EU countries

The majority of Poles surveyed in a recent study by CBOS are still supportive of the European Union, reported Gazeta Wyborcza.

Despite the continuing financial crisis and general uncertainty in the EU, 81 percent of surveyed Poles still support the country's membership of the bloc.

However, opinions regarding Poland's prospective adoption of the euro have changed significantly over the last decade. In 2002, 64 percent of surveyed Poles were in favor of joining the single European currency but in CBOS's survey, conducted earlier this year, 60 percent actually opposed the same proposal.

Poles are also less positive than a year earlier about offering other EU countries financial backing, with 57 percent of those polled saying they believed Poland should not help financially-stricken EU member states.
