UPDATE: Late Friday night, police in Sosnowiec found the body of six-month-old Magda, after the baby's mother indicated where she could be found.
Earlier, Magda's mother told a private investigator that she had left the body under some trees in a nearby woods. However, after being questioned by police, she admitted that she had actually left the body in a different place -- in the ruins of a railway building in the woods. Police found Magda's body there.
Magda's story had gripped the nation over the past two weeks, after it was originally reported that she had been kidnapped. Magda's mother was found hit on the head and unconscious, along with an empty stroller, on a sidewalk January 24. At that time she claimed that she had been attacked, and that her assailant had taken the baby.
A nationwide search was initiated, with police calling for potential witnesses to come forth with information.
However, on Thursday evening, Magda's mother admitted to a private detective that the baby had slipped from her hands, and hit her head during the fall. When it became clear that Magda wasn't breathing, the mother panicked, and disposed of the body in the woods.
