Lotos to drill for shale gas in Lithuania
Polish oil giant Lotos announced on Monday that it will soon begin searching for shale gas and oil in Lithuania, Rzeczpospolita reported.
“We have decided to start our first drilling for shale gas or shale oil. Let's see what's underground,” Paweł Olechnowicz, CEO of Lotos, told reporters in Vilnius following a meeting with Andrius Kubilius, Lithuania’s prime minister.
Lotos, which controls Lithuanian oil company Geonafta, also plans to take part in a tender to obtain a license to explore two new sites close to the border with Poland. The tender is expected to be launched this spring.
