The Pomeranian Special Economic Zone (PSEZ) has signed an agreement with Chen Honghui, the deputy mayor of the city of Zhuhai in Guangdong province, China, to develop a partnership between the ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia and the Chinese port of Gaolan.
“We would like to develop direct connections between the ports. We will provide logistics and consulting support, including training for Polish and Chinese exporters ... We are opening two gates, one for the Chinese market and one for the European market,” Teresa Kamińska, the president of the management board at PSEZ, told Puls Biznesu.
“It's a process that will take some time,” Ms Kamińska said, adding that both the Gdynia and Gdańsk ports are ready for handling Asian cargo. “We now have to become competitive with other European ports, including Hamburg. We need logistics centers, roads and railroads,” she added.
When it comes to Polish investments in China, Chinese authorities are particularly interested in attracting companies that specialize in food processing, biotechnology, sanitation and technology exchange.
Puls Biznesu wrote that Chinese authorities allegedly want to foster closer links with Poland in order to bypass the more expensive Hong Kong market.
