The consortium of Hydrobudowa Polska and Alpine Bau will have to pay a fine of zł.4.7 million for a delay in the construction of the PGE Arena soccer stadium in Gdańsk, Parkiet reported.
An independent committee which examined the reasons for the delay in the project ruled that the main culprits were the changing expectations of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the long winter last year.
Completion of the project was delayed by close to 80 days, but the committee ultimately decided that the general contractor will have to pay a fine for 18 days.
According to the construction contract, the PGE Arena was to be built by April 30, 2011. But in fact the investment was completed on July 18. The stadium is one of the venues for the Euro 2012 soccer championship, which starts in June.
