Some of the biggest players on the Polish restaurant sector plan to open a total of 100 restaurants in 2012, reports daily Parkiet.
Currently, Poland's restaurant business is estimated at zł.31 billion. But experts believe the sector is set to increase by several percent this year due in part to the Euro 2012 soccer championships.
“Investing is not a bad idea now. A lot of companies went bankrupt during the economic downturn and the market now offers a lot of affordable locations for business,” Łukasz Wachełko, an analyst from DB Securities, told the daily.
AmRest, the operator of KFC, Pizza Hut, Burger King and Starbucks chains in Poland and other CEE countries, has the most ambitious plans for the new year. The firm plans to open 80 new locations in 2012, most of them in Poland and the CEE region.
The value of the company's investment is estimated at zł.350 million.
Meanwhile McDonald’s, the leader in fast food restaurant business in Poland in terms of number of locations (279 in 2011), plans to open at least 21 new restaurants per year in 2012 and 2013, reports Parkiet.
