In his New Year's address on TVP1, Polish President Bronisław Komorowski highlighted the country's achievements in 2011, including the success of its historic presidency of the EU.
“I am proud of how Poles proved themselves as good and effective organizers of common European affairs,” Mr Komorowski said during the address.
The president also expressed his hope that more solidarity within the EU would help the euro zone emerge from its current economic crisis, much like the Solidarity movement helped Poland achieve freedom from communist rule.
He added that the European soccer championships in 2012 will be a good occasion to promote Poland in the eyes of the world.
