Polish retail sales beat expectations, but unemployment on the rise
November retail sales in Poland grew by 12.6 percent year-on-year, beating analysts' expectations of a 10-10.5 percent rise, according to figures released by the Central Statistical Office (GUS).
The last four months have seen double-digit annualized increases in retail sales despite the pessimistic economic climate and the worsening labor market.
GUS reported that unemployment rose from 11.8 percent in October to 12.1 percent in November.
There were 1.9 million registered unemployed Poles at the end of November.
Meanwhile, inflation was at 4.8 percent while real wage growth stood at 4.4 percent.
