The residence of the US ambassador to Poland has recently joined the League of Green Embassies, an initiative for promoting energy efficiency in US government buildings.

The aim of the League is to reduce the environmental impact caused by excessive use of water, heat and light by incorporating energy-saving technologies in US diplomatic buildings.

US Ambassador to Poland Lee Feinstein recently gave a tour to journalists of his Warsaw residence.

“We want to lead by example,” Mr Feinstein told the press.

He added that even small changes implemented in a home can have a positive impact on the environment.

The residence is now equipped with an electric car, energy-saving refrigerators, dishwashers, insulated windows and temperature regulating controls.

Companies Phillips, 3M, GreenLight, Danfoss, General Motors and Whirlpool provided the residence with the energy saving equipment.

The companies are part of the not-for-profit Alliance to Save Energy, a business- and US-government-backed group tasked with promoting energy efficiency.

The ambassador said that the US government had given $600,000 for the project worldwide, with the companies also contributing.

The US is heavily criticized for being a major polluter. WBJ.pl talked to Ambassador Feinstein about this criticism and about the importance of going green.
