State-owned Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) announced on Friday that it has picked Żarnowiec, Choczewo and Għski on the Baltic coast as the three potential locations for building the country's first nuclear power plant.
President of the management board Tomasz Zadroga told journalists that 92 locations were considered, before finally narrowing the choice down to the three on the Baltic Sea coastline.
“The final decision on the site will be taken in 2013,” said deputy head of PGE nuclear unit Jacek Cichosz. Environmental and geological criteria, as well as access to water, which is crucial for cooling elements of the plant's system, are among the criteria used to select the final location, he added.
A tender to pick a technology supplier is expected to launch by the end of the year.
