The Polish economy is not able to accommodate the increasing number of university graduates entering the jobs market, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reported, citing comments from experts.
In the academic year 2009/2010, over 205,000 students finished vocational and technical high schools and close to 479,000 young people graduated with a degree, data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) shows.
This means that for every two post-high school graduates there is one vocational or tech high-school graduate. Experts say the number of graduate-level jobs on offer in Poland is not sufficient to meet the demand of the large number of qualified young people.
“No economy is able to offer jobs to such a high number of people with university degrees. A great number of them are able to find employment but these are positions that are below their qualifications,” professor Mieczysław Kabaj from the Institute of Labor and Social Affairs told Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.
