US firms GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy and Fluor Group have established memorandum of understanding to work together on building a nuclear plant in Poland if they win a bid to take part in the project.

Polish state-owned utility PGE is due to open the project-bidding process during a conference set for September 22-23.

The two American companies made joint statements announcing the venture. They will both play an active role in engineering a design, providing construction supplies and materials as well as security for the construction of a new nuclear plant, gazeta.pl reported.

Poland's first nuclear plant is expected to come online in 2020.
