In 2010, total sales of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs and dietary supplements reached a value of more than zł.1 billion in Poland, according to a report from research firm PMR Publications.
Despite this figure, the report found that the market had grown by a mere 1 percent year-on-year, mainly due to difficult economic conditions and good results reported during the previous year, which created a high-base effect.
This year, however, promises to be better as PMR expects sales growth of about 5 percent. For 2012 and 2013, 4 percent growth is predicted.
According to PMR, sales of OTC drugs and supplements that occurred outside of pharmacies amounted to 12 percent of the total OTC market in Poland last year.
