PKO BP brought in 330,000 new accounts by July 25 of this year, of which 178,000 were opened by new customers, reports Puls Bizensu. The remaining 152,000 belong to existing clients who were enticed by better deals.
To a great extent, the success can be attributed to the bank's huge advertising campaign – which ended in June – featuring the famous comedian Szymon Majewski. PKO BP gained around 140,000 accounts during the period of the advertising campaign, the newspaper said.
Moreover, other banks posted similar figures. Without launching new advertising, BZ WBK opened 167,000 accounts, 135,000 of which belong to new clients.
MBank also did fairly well, closing H1 with 99,100 new accounts. Getin Noble Bank, which advertizes almost exclusively on the internet, gained 100,000 accounts from January through June, the newspaper reported.
