The Central Anti-Corruption Agency (CBA) has seized control of GUS's (Central Statistical Office) transactional documents to carry out inspections of permanent employees.

CBA spokesperson Jacek Dobrzanski, told daily Rzeczpospolita that the agency is also “protecting documents from procurement implemented in the year 2009- 2010.”

Unofficially, the CBA had been observing GUS's actions for the past few months, and now the newly implemented monitoring will last until May 17. Among the violations, inspectors found that GUS’s permanent employees were paid exorbitant amounts.

For their working preparing the national census, 357 employees were to be paid a sum of zł.3.5 million. Out of these, 67 workers were paid a tota sum of zł.2.3 million.

These huge sums led to the dismissal of GUS president Joseph Olenski earlier this year, and the office is now under the leadership of Janusz Witkowski.
