Polish competition watchdog fines Polkomtel and PTC
The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has fined Poland's number two mobile operator, Polkomtel, zł.130 million. At the same time it fined telecom Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa (PTC) zł.123 million.
The firms operate the Plus and Era brands, respectively.
Both are under investigation for price fixing, together with P4 (operator of the Play mobile network), FM, TV Info and NFI Magna Polonia. UOKiK argues that Polkomtel and PTC have persistently obstructed its investigations.
The decision is not binding, and both companies are likely to appeal. However, few UOKiK decisions have been successfully contested in the past.
