Palikot's replacement leaves Civic Platform

Maverick Politician Janusz Palikot's replacement in the Civic Platform (PO) party, Zbigniew Wojciechowski, has now officially changed parties, to join Poland Comes First (PJN).

Mr Palikot resigned as an MP on January 11, saying that his conscience would not allow him to act as an MP who had been elected on a Civic Platform (PO) ticket.

In Poland, whenever an MP resigns, his replacement is always the person on the party list who has received the next greatest number of votes.

Mr Wojciechowski's desertion is doubly ironic because Mr Palikot's new political vehicle, the Movement of Support, has openly attacked Poland Comes First, which is itself a grouping that splintered from the opposition Law and Justice party.

In a poster campaign, a bewinged-Palikot proclaims, “The economy comes first.”
