Civic Platform seeks church support ahead of elections
PO wants to remind clergy of its pro-church policies
Civic Platform (PO) politicians will personally distribute letters from Ireneusz Raś, their leader in the Małopolskie voivodship, to the 650 odd parish priests in the administrative district. PO wants to improve its relations with the lower-ranking clergy of the Catholic Church, saying it already has good rapport with the bishops.
This letter precedes local government elections and comes after the presidential election campaign in which Catholic priests openly endorsed the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party candidate, Jarosław Kaczyński. The letter reminds the clergy of money spent by PO administrative officials on the restoration of churches and the party's plan to make January 6, the religious Epiphany feast day, a national holiday.
