Activists from Greenpeace on Wednesday launched an eye-catching protest in Warsaw against what they see as a threat to the primeval Białowieża Forest in eastern Poland.

The campaigners hung an enormous yellow banner from the roof of the Environment Ministry, which proclaims: “I heart [love] the primeval forest”

“We demand that the environment minister stop deforestation of the Białowieża primeval forest until a new management plan for the forest is drawn up,” Robert Cyglicki from Greenpeace Poland told Rzeczpospolita.

Greenpeace spokesperson Katarzyna Guzek told the Associated Press that just 17 percent of the forest is protected as a national park. Meanwhile, the government allows logging in other parts of the forest.
