Fewer roads than promised for Euro 2012
Fewer roads will be completed in time for the Euro 2012 soccer championships than had initially been promised. But transportation experts say the shortfall should not threaten the event’s overall preparation.
Experts in the transportation industry say that insufficient preparation of public transportation systems and train stations presents a far greater danger.
Cezary Grabarczyk, the Minister of Infrastructure, said in February 2008 that by 2012 Poland would have 1,605 km of high speed road systems and 2,418 km of expressways. These goals appear to be unreachable despite recent efforts to speed up building.
Jakub Majewski, a transportation analyst, says Poland should have perfectly acceptable network of roads, but only by 2015.
