| Several Chopin-related events take place this month Bartosz Bajerski/WBJ |
The Chopin Year – a year-long celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the birth of Fryderyk Chopin, Poland’s most beloved composer – is in full swing, with a number of musical and cultural events taking place around the nation. Indeed, while the celebration has months ahead of it, several interesting events are taking place this month.
In Warsaw, May 19 will see a piano concert at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, with Karolina Nadolska and Stanisław Drzewiecki performing some of the composer’s many works. On May 21, the Warsaw Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by singers Jadwiga Rappé and Jarosław Bręk, will perform “Funeral March for Fryderyk Chopin” and other pieces. And on May 23 a pair of concerts – by Russian-American pianist Igor Lovchinsky and Latvia’s Dina Yoffe, respectively – will be held in the capital’s famed Łazienki Park.
Other events will take place simultaneously across the country this month. These include concerts, exhibitions and conferences, such as the “Chopin in Film” conference taking place from May 26-29 in Płock, a suburb of Warsaw. This event, which is geared towards representatives of the tourism industry, will discuss the promotion of the Chopin Year through travel films, photography and multimedia.
