Kraków prosecutors are carrying out an investigation into suspected bribery among judges on the Supreme Court, according to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.

The details of the unprecedented case are know only to a few people, including parliamentarians on the commission investigating last year's gambling scandal.

They were briefed at a secret meeting by Edward Zalewski, then head of the National Public Prosecutor's Office, and Marek Wełna, deputy head of the Kraków prosecutor's office.

"They had to do this, because it's through this same investigation that the gambling scandal arose," said a source familiar with the situation.

According to the sources, agents of the Central Anticorruption Bureau (CBA) have been focusing on a group of lawyers since 2008. The agents suspected that they may have been in a position to corrupt a Supreme Court judge who handed out rulings on their clients.

Among those under investigation was Ryszard Sobiesiak, a businessman involved in the gambling sector.
