Poland's farmers are prospering faster than those of most other European Union nations.

From 2000 to 2009, farm owners' income increased as much as 107 percent, beaten only by Latvia and Estonia, which saw increases of 140 percent and 131 percent, respectively.

However, the two Baltic states also saw drops in agricultural employment of 38 percent and 55 percent, respectively – the biggest declines in the EU.

By comparison, the number of farming jobs in Poland fell just 11 percent, with only Ireland and Greece showing smaller declines.
