If you’re looking for a film that both you and your kids will enjoy, then this is the one. Wes Anderson’s adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl story is fast-paced and fun, with some crackling dialogue and enough mature humor to keep all ages amused.
This is the tale of the cunning Mr Fox (George Clooney), a veteran chicken poacher who, after one too many close calls, promises his wife (Meryl Streep) that he will give up his thieving ways. The trouble begins when Mr Fox is tempted into one last job – stealing from the three meanest farmers in town. What ensues is a riotous battle of wits as the enraged farmers fight back.
In the era of slick Avatar-style computer effects, you have to give credit to anyone still patient enough to work with low-tech stop-motion animation. The effort really pays off though, with a visceral realism that computers have yet to achieve. Combined with an all-star cast and some hilarious social satire, it makes for a very enjoyable film.
