A number of politicians interviewed by Polska think that Jan Krzysztof Bielecki will be appointed Civic Platform's (PO) deputy head in the party's May congress, and could even join the government in due course.

“Yes, this is the obvious come-back by Jan Krzysztof Bielecki to politics,” Jarosław Gowin, PO MP told the daily. “I expect a further step during the party congress in May, I would not be surprised if he joined PO's leadership.”

Party MP Janusz Palikot was skeptical. “I do not think he will rise within the party, but I'm sure he will [rise] within the government.”

Mr Bielecki, who recently resigned as the CEO of Bank Pekao, was appointed by Prime Minister Tusk to the PM's new economic council. He had previously served as Prime Minister of Poland under President Lech Wałęsa in 1991. (RG)
