The government program for the construction of rural, biogas-fueled power and heating stations will soon get underway, with more than 300 projects under consideration.

By 2020, every community will have a biogas station. The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOSiGW) is preparing a new program to fund such plants, which will use domestic and agricultural waste, as well as silage to generate electricity and heat.

"We are planning to allocate zł.400 million for grants for these projects and an additional zł.600 million in the form of loans," said Witold Retke, the head of the NFOSiGW's green investments team.

The funds are expected to come from the foreign sales of Polish carbon dioxide production rights.

The government has struck such deals with Japan and Spain, earning €55 million, while negotiations are still ongoing with other countries.
