Throughout this month, the Grand Opera House and the National Theatre in Warsaw are presenting a variety of world-class classical opera and ballet performances. The season opens with a gala concert marking the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birthday on March 1. Mariusz Treliński’s much-anticipated production of Verdi’s “La Traviata” will be one of the biggest events on the opera calendar this month, playing March 2 and 3. Otherworldly Greek tragedy “Oresteia,” meanwhile, will be performed on March 14, with repeats on March 16 and 25.
On March 18, “Madame Butterfly” will give audiences a tragic view of the world through the eyes of a geisha, and on March 24, Strauss’s opera “Elektra” brings a dramatic adaptation of Sophocles’ Greek tragedy to the stage.
