Despite analysts predicting 2010 to be as difficult as 2009 for the automotive industry, the Opel factory in Gliwice is planning to take on an extra 700 employees.

The news comes a few months after the factory announced massive layoffs.

This newly found optimism might be caused by the Astra IV, assembled at the plant, and which is set to enjoy a wide success.

“We hope that we can sell these cars in Western Europe and Poland,” said Grzegorz Smołka from General Motors Manufacturing Poland, which owns Opel in Poland.

The new workers will join the company by mid April. (RG)
